The author lists outcomes to be accomplished during middle school. Do you agree with this list, or would you add or delete any outcomes?
This is a very short section. What would you add to give this more depth?
By the time a student reaches middle school, refined cane skills should be developing (at least the expectation should be there); especially the touch technique and especially outdoors (At this late date, the diagonal technique should be second nature). No student should leave middle school without graceful, accurate, stress free cane skills. At the least, students should be able to demonstrate good skills even if they don't routinely exercise the best techniques in practice.
For kids with neuromuscular disorders, like low tone and cerebral palsy, we expect that cane skills would still need refinement (to various individual degrees). These students may still be working on outdoor travel, and experiencing new, unfamiliar environments. For students with minor (or no) secondary impairments, we expect cane skills to be fully developed and on the way to being graceful and error free by the time they finish high school (if not before).
